Ingredients
  

  • Biscuits:
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ½ cup cold butter
  • 1 cup cold buttermilk
  • Sausage Gravy:
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 2 ½ cups whole milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • Pinch cayenne optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Mix dry biscuit ingredients.
  3. Cut in cold butter.
  4. Stir in buttermilk gently.
  5. Pat dough, cut biscuits, bake 12–15 minutes.
  6. Brown sausage in skillet.
  7. Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes.
  8. Slowly add milk while stirring.
  9. Simmer until thick. Season to taste.
  10. Split biscuits and top with gravy.

Notes

  • Keep butter and buttermilk cold.
  • Do not overmix biscuit dough.
  • Simmer gravy gently to avoid scorching.
  • Adjust pepper to taste for authentic flavor.
